A family affair

To understand the history of Albertine, you need to go back to 1913, when Paul Anthon founded his corsetry and hosiery firm, Maison de Corsetterie et Bonneterie Anthon. His son Albert would assume the company’s leadership in 1943. With his strong personality, the man would have a profound effect on his granddaughters Caroline and Anémone. They, who spent their childhoods twirling among the lace and corsets designed by their ingenious grandfather, began their careers along a different path. Caroline was focused on marketing, while Anémone was working in advertising and broadcasting. But their sweet childhood memories had left in them a brash desire to launch a creative enterprise together. The sisters’ strength comes from their mutual affection, their similarities and their differences. Both love the sun, vacations by the seaside, and relaxing on the warm sand... Albertine was born of their childhood memories and their aspirations.

The duo draws inspiration from ready-to-wear collections and reinvents the conventions of swimwear, making the swimsuit a fashion piece in its own right. Since the very first collections, Albertine has played with dual fabrics, mismatched prints and mixed genres. The one-piece and two-piece suits are adorned with velvet, flounces and stripes, in a lovely blend of retro and ultra-modern cuts. Not to mention the blousy swimsuit that has become one of the brand’s flagship cuts. Albertine’s collections have won over both the general public and the press, but also designers the likes of Claudie Pierlot, Modetrotter, Balzac Paris, Eric Bompard and Monoprix, who have all requested their own encapsulated collections.

In 2014, the sisters embarked on a new challenge: creating a line of lingerie. A mini-collection was developed, with mixed materials and prints in simple, comfortable cuts. Lingerie that is easy to wear, and so pretty that you want to show it off. Once again, their creative minds exerted a power of attraction. Each collection is imagined and designed in Biarritz, in an atmosphere of joy and good humor. The garments are manufactured in various production units in Europe and Tunisia. 

Today, the brand is sold in many French retail outlets, including Le Bon Marché, AB33, Le 66, lanouvellevague.com and lexception.com, but also in the US, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Japan and more... In 2015, the first boutique opened its doors in Biarritz, on the Basque coast, followed by a second, seasonal boutique in Hossegor in 2017. And for the 2018 season, the Albertine team is expanding, recruiting and setting up a gorgeous space near Hossegor (in the Pédebert industrial zone), combining offices and a retail floor. Albertine claims and embraces its “West Coast” identity!

And for this new 2018 Spring-Summer season, Albertine worked with the Tara Jarmon label to create a beautiful encapsulated collection of four swimsuits, employing the label’s two signature prints: the timeless bandana print and a floral print in which springtime colors bloom forth. This mini-collection is available at any Tara Jarmon point of sale in France and from the Albertine e-shop.

Albertine was founded in 2009, by two sisters inspired by childhood memories of sunshine and vacations at the seaside. With their passion for fabrics, they created their own collection of swimsuits, reinventing the conventions of swimwear: mismatched pieces, with retro and modern cuts. The brand was designed for women who appreciate fashion, elegance and originality and who have a certain idea of luxury.
